Trivial Pursuit for Plant Breeders

Now I’m annoyed I didn’t see this thread earlier. I actually knew the term ha-ha. (Normally the discussions here of late have been way over my head.)
What prize did I miss out on?

The “Golden Cents of Humour” prize …. still unclaimed … l got to take shot at the latest tough one … though my quess l can’t get to the Greek …. “ Jeffersonium ? “

… sp as usual … end in “ia” …. Twin Leaf

Hmm. Good guess, Riku, but…[sound of buzzer] sorry…

Ooh… I get dibs on the name, “Scents of Humor”…
…Assuming any of my roses ever merits naming.
(I did once use “Used Tissues in Barbed Wire Fence” as a name for a Mr. Nash x Rugelda offspring.)

A mutual friend on Face Book says the Kleenex and gum and candy wrappers caught in the fences are “New Jersey wildflowers”.

Aloha?

Ok, this trivia question was pretty arch and self-congratulatory. But, remember, we have a mind like Kim’s to contend with. I’m going to add some more clues…

“What is tall, but rather short
ill but in perfect health
disparaged by many
but admired by many
John’s antecedent
and a State’s namesake,
a Greek’s favorite
with an apple’s perfume.”

Three great ladies, namesakes all
Two are short and one is tall
Charlotte’s daughter, alas
Spawned many knockouts from the grass [Ok, ok, but I had to make it rhyme, nitpickers…]
The other two I think you know
Were never regents of a show.

Emily Bronte?

“Emily Bronte?” Good try, Riku! But gameshow buzzer sorry…

I haven’t got it worked out fully, but my mind is going to the red descendants of Charlotte Armstrong: Oklahoma, Mister Lincoln and… Papa Meilland?
The Greek fav with apple perfume has me at a loss, however, so I am guessing I am way off target…

Only Greek (a favourite of) that comes to mind for me is the late HRH Prince Philip … but thats a bunny trail to throw internationals off

Only southern Greeks l heard of is Jimmy, and the Dukakis clan (Olympia). The international, Nana Mouskouri might work if she was seen with roses.

Oh and the “My Big Fat - - - - - Wedding” … usually roses at those … and hopefully my favourite Retsyna (sic) but doesn’t smell like :green_apple:

I would go to Eglantines for the apple, but seems a bit obvious, and don’t know how to tie that in to the other clues.

John(ny) Appleseed … applejack … dead end for me … noticed Nana’s Recuerdos Vol1 (wanted Guantanamera song) has red rose prominently displayed on album cover (bunny trail?)

Bunny trail as leans to ? “The White Rose of Athens”

Quote ….

“ Nana sang about daisies, lilies of the valley, violets, carnations.

Roses are her fetish flowers thanks to the famous song “The white rose of Athens”.

Its melody was originaly created in Greece but destined for the German public. Its adaptation was so successful that the song has been for her like a passport to make career outside her country. Here is its story.”

Man, you guys are amazing! I’m honored that it has engaged you so much. You Are getting closer. I can drop another clue later today if more readers want a chance.

Well starting with your root of lineage belief, her daughter Queens Elizabeth (whether the short or tall version) is definitely regent quality for a show … rest is a challenge for me to fit … couple others of hers were, a princess and imperial gold
