Belle Epoque will abort asap when it is hot. Ive tried It loves the springs here, and once set, the fertile hips will stay.
Jadae yes Solitaire is just another excellent rose, and it looks like it also got some of the good healthy genes coming from CG.
Robert I guess you are right with your opinion a long way. We have so many descendants of CG to use right now with lots of its good characters.
But still I think it would be magic to have all that special genes from CG to work with, in one single rose, instead of have them split around in many different roses.

Itās simply a matter of dilution. I donāt, offhand, know of any other comparable yellows with such concentration of sweetbriar species genes. Certainly not with comparable qualities.

Hey Roseynut, I was thinking that the quarantine ended this season, but just re-read your post. Am I to understand that it will be July of 2008 before your plants, should they survive, are freed??? Yikes.
Do you get to visit them, or get postcards from them?? I was wondering what the status wasā¦
What about this rose? 'KORtionza' Rose
Not in North America (yet?) though.
Hey, folks!
Peter alerted me that there was more discussion on this thread, so I thought Iād jump in with an update. CG IS in the U.S., in my very own garden. I live on a large property, so have set up my own quarantine area. As I said (about a year ago), it was propagated in France from cuttings from the Roseto Fineschi, and then sent to me. I have 2 plants, which are still small, but⦠they are here, and they are alive. They made it thru the winter with no problems. We still have another year+ to go on quarantine; by then, I hope the plants will be sturdy enough to start propagating from them!
Marily
Thatās great Marily!
As you know there are some horticultural treasures in Europe for us breeders. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Postillion, the rose Jadae refers to, is a big Kordes shrub. Although it won an ADR award, it is not as resistant to blackspot as my other Kordes roses (including itās parents). I did Postillion x Kir Royal two years ago but all seedlings died very young. I thought Postillion seedlings would always have this problem so I didnāt use it last year.
However, I made a tray of OP seeds and many germinated in a rather dry environment and are now growing well. The cross I made before was probably just a bad combination. If the seedlings are OK, I will use Postillion this year, because it sets big hips with many seeds and the seeds germinate well. The parentage, which I didnāt know back then, is also interesting enough to give it another try.
Rob
I wondered that because Friesinger Morgenrote (a different seedling of Queen Lucia) was highly blackspot prone despite itās good vigor and steady blooms.
Good news about CG is in U.S.
Sadly I can inform that my connection with Henny Johansson, Swedish Rose Society Gothenburg in Sweden had stopped.
I donāt know what happened, but suddenly she doesn

If you get your hands on it, I would love to have a cutting

Roseynut, perhaps you could send this rose to uncommonrose.com so that they can propogate and re-introduce it in commerce?
Iāve been looking for this rose for a very long time. Since 2001 and 2002. Although, Iām understanding that there maybe more than one cultivar by this name.
But, in the mean while, consider sending propogation material to uncommonrose.com.
I think Paul Barden knows them really well.
And thereās Ashdownroses.com too-- Kim knows them well.
Perhaps there will be a way to possitively identify it once we can find people who can remember Clare.
It will be very nice.
If you send cuttings somewhere, send it to Vintage Gardens in California. Uncommon Rose does not sell outside of USA, they do not even answer mails. Ashdown has also become unreliable. I know a group of people still waiting for a delivery of Grey Pearl, promised ages ago.
I would like to suggest Hortico as another place to send cuttings. They ship to both the US and Canada.

After a coincidence of circumstances and much help from a good friend in Germany, I can inform you, that I within a week or two, will receive 2 propagated Cl
Bo, is it possible that you can contact me with the German connection you have? I would love to get a plant of Clare Grammerstorf and put it in my program. Germany is next to The Netherlands so shipping is very easy.

Timo
Hi Timo
At the moment I am sorry to say, that I canāt do much. My friend got 2 plants and I got 2 and there are no more available. With time, when my plants get bigger, I will hopefully be able to help with some cuttings though.
Bo
Hi Bo,
That whould be nice if you can do that after a while.
Itās always nice to make crosses with rare roses. I hope itās doing well for you next season!
Regards,
Timo
What a beautiful rose. It would be great if this one becomes available in the US at some point.
Timo, I will post here, whenever something
