My Crystal Ball or Yours...

OK, I’ve dug up five scans I’m about to post. The one containing the Wichurana information is the Probable Amphidiploid of Abysinnica and Rugosa, from the 1987 ARS annual. I’m putting up the other four by Dr. Basye from the 80s and 1990 because I think they will be of interest.

I’m still raising a hybrid of Basye’s Amphidiploid from Henry’s batch he sent me eons ago. I think it will finally bloom next spring! It grows looks like a dwarf alba and acicularis got together :stuck_out_tongue: the foliage has been bullet-proof, a very odd shade of “grey,” and somewhat simple – no “thorns” but it has small bristles on random canes. It is a very peculariar rose. All of its parents are big, but this fella is about 4’ tall x 3’ wide. Oh, it is highly drought tolerant, as it survived being moved 3 times in 5 years to its final home. Based on a guesstimate of the foliage, its either triploid or tetraploid.

I have no idea what to do with this rose yet, but it is very unique and quite charming as a “woodsy landscape” type.
