Rob I’m hoping they take after L83 with the added benefit of rebloom, but we shall see. I think for the most part these crosses may be too diluted with miniature blood. When I get a good idea I will start filling you in.
Yesterday I finally had time to check for germination and managed to get 13 crosses put in seed trays. I was really impressed with one cross Ebb Tide X Archduke Charles had already sprouted 11 of the 12 seeds!
Newly germinated:
Sequoia Ruby x [(Rugosa #3 x R. glauca ) x unknown]
Pollen parent is 'Ruglauca' Rose ‘Ruglauca’. In a perfect world this would turn out mini, disease free, rugose and grey leaves with great scent and very hardy. I’ll settle for mini, hardy and excellent resistance. Both Rugosa #3 and R. glauca are hardy to zone 2 so this seedling(s) should exhibit much better hardiness than most minis.
This could turn out VERY interesting! Congratulations!
Thanks Kim. There could be some good potential here to bring better disease resistance and hardiness to the miniature class. At least that’s my goal. Exciting stuff!
Today these germinated:
Strawberry Cream (miniature, Byrnes 2007) x Flower Carpet Amber
Sequoia Ruby x Rugosa #3
I only had one seed from the first one listed so I’m thrilled it germinated.
I’ve got seedling envy. ![]()
Germinating today:
Sequoia Ruby x Softee
Sequoia Ruby x Rugosa #3
Germinated today:
Strawberry Cream (miniature, Byrnes 2007) x Oso Easy Paprica
Hoping for a mini with orange and yellow stripes with good health and fragrance.
Some interesting crosses Rob. How has your Strawberry Cream been as a parent?
Five days since the seedling trays were planted and my first seedling is up - carefree beauty x versicolor. It is not usually this quick. Liz
Adam,
Strawberry Cream is a good parent both ways. It’s very fertile, a non stop bloomer, has a strong fragrance and roots very well. I have an excellent miniature from Strawberry Cream x 1-72-1 from last season that was very disease resistant in the first season. It also has nice color and bloom form. If you have any interest in Strawberry Cream let me know.

You have some great crosses Paul!
Thanks Rob,
You always have great crosses too.
Thanks Paul!
I potted up a few that sprouted last night. The one that I am really excited about is Prairie Lass X Honeysweet. I can’t wait to see what comes out of it. Hopefully Prairie Lass’s health will be carried through.
I’m very excited about my Sequoia Ruby x Rugosa #3 seedlings. If #3 is truly a tetraploid then I hope I will be a step closer to getting some minis that exhibit excellent hardiness and resistance…hopefully with beautiful blooms and fertility as well. I would also love to develop some mini rugosas…very rugose leaves!
Rob I asked because I was just curious. I love it when I see people use their own work. If it was mossy I would probably take you up on your offer.
Paul I have only gotten through part of your list looking it up on hmf. Wow! you have some amazing stuff brewing on the kettle.
Andre maybe you can get the color of Honeysweet with stippling.
Rob I been trying for miniature rugosa for years. Maybe you will have a lot more luck than I have ever had.
Andre,
If I come up with one I’ll let you know. ![]()
