Thanks Rob and David! Here is a mini that opened this morning. I don’t think I’ve ever before had a seedling that is such a bright shade of orange.
And another mini, this one with a halo.
Love that orange color
Wow, that’s not burnt orange, that’s burning orange!
Bw,

Thanks Rob and Jukka! Here are two first blooms with nice form, one white and one pink.
great form on those. After seeing what you’ve produced, I’m glad I’ll be working with Apricot Twist this season.
Hi Jim, any thoughts of how the color came about out of this X , Apricot Twist x Julia Child) x ((Magenta x Lilac Charm) x Julia Child, The white intrigues me.
Thanks! I’ll be using Apricot Twist this season myself. It isn’t my most fertile parent, but it is one of the best for passing disease resistance to its seedlings.
The seed parent was yellow; the pollen parent was apricot. The genetics of color is complicated. Even if I had seen many other blooms from this cross, it might be hard to discern the pattern of color inheritance. The only other seedling from this cross to bloom so far was yellow, but it was small, and had fewer petals and poor form. Other seedlings that had Apricot Twist x Julia Child as a parent have mostly been pink or yellow. One was fluorescent orange.
That white bud has opened, and now you can see that the center petals are yellow. I just noticed a third seedling from this cross blooming this morning. Its inner petals are orange and outer petals are pink.
For fans of orange, Julia Child is a must have. Produces some beautiful oranges. That is a lovely example above. Nice going!.
I really like the first bloom on this seedling. It is a rare case of a cross (Midnight Blue x Plum Frost) giving me exactly what I hoped for. It is deep purple and has an intense old rose fragrance. It already has five more buds that will open after this one, so I think it’s going to be a good bloomer. Its health is perfect so far, but it’s really too early in the season to judge.
Jim,
How has this one done for you since you posted earlier this year?

It got powdery mildew this Fall, but it’s still a keeper for me. Hopefully mildew won’t be a serious problem for it in the future.
Deep purple is my color! It’s great to see baby pictures!
