These are the first two seedlings to bloom from the cross
Apricot Twist x (Fabulous! x (Schoener’s Nutkana x Coral Dawn))
As usual, I broke off the first bud on each seedling, so these blooms are from the second buds. It looks like both will be minis. (About 3/4 of Apricot Twist’s seedlings are minis.) The parents are two of the healthiest roses in my garden, so I’m hoping for good health from this cross.
129 seedlings have had their first buds so far. Most of them have second buds that will be opening soon.
Jim,
Very nice! I’m glad to see that ‘Schoener’s Nutkana’ has not been forgotten. I had wondered if it might contribute strength (and size?) to Minis. My thought was to cross it with ‘Sequoia Jewel’ because both were derived from ‘Paul Neyron’.
Thanks! My Fabulous! is Zary’s Floribunda. Schoener’s Nutkana isn’t the most fertile rose, but it can pass health and vigor to its seedlings. I like your idea of crossing it with Sequoia Jewel. Here are a couple of old pics of my seedling of
Schoener’s Nutkana x Coral Dawn.

And here is a pic of another mini starting to bloom today. It is closely related to the ones in the first two pics in this thread. It already has 5 more buds. The cross was Apricot Twist x (Fabulous! x Lilac Charm).
Here’s how the first bloom on that last seedling looks tonight. It is opening slowly. It isn’t what I was hoping for from this cross, but if it stays healthy, I think it will be a keeper.
Thanks, David. I like the yellows too. And also the mauves. Most of my crosses involve yellows, mauves, or both.
I really like the first bloom on this seedling. It is a rare case of a cross (Midnight Blue x Plum Frost) giving me exactly what I hoped for. It is deep purple and has an intense old rose fragrance. It already has five more buds that will open after this one, so I think it’s going to be a good bloomer. Its health is perfect so far, but it’s really too early in the season to judge.
Thanks guys! David, I have no idea how it will hold up to heat. I won’t be able to test that since it never gets very hot here. I can’t comment on how well its parents do in hot conditions either, but maybe someone on the forum who is in a warmer climate and has Midnight Blue or Plum Frost can comment.
