Baby pics

Thanks Kim and David! Here is a photo of the first bloom of a sister seedling to the dark purple one I posted previously in this thread. This one is a tricolor single. The outer part of the petal is purple and the inner part is white. Between the purple and the white, the petal is deep pink.

I realized after taking this photo that the colors are a bit obscured by shadows, but I accidentally killed my camera, so I couldn’t take a better photo. :frowning:

Nice flower, could it be the start of a 'blotch". Now the other question is “how does one kill a camera”

Thanks, David! I left my camera on the bench in the greenhouse and didn’t notice it was there when I came back later and watered. I let it dry out for several days, but it won’t turn on.

I just bought a new camera, the Nikon Coolpix L340. Target had it on sale for $129. I wouldn’t have bought it at their regular price, $229, but it’s a great camera for $129. I’ve only taken a few photos so far. It is very easy to use and it takes much better closeups of flowers than my old camera did.

Here’s the first bloom of a seedling from the cross Gemini x Moondance. The petals are light pink on the top and light yellow on the bottom.

And here’s a new bud on the dark purple floribunda that I posted previously.

I think I have a soft spot for those dark purples…

Me too. Here’s another bloom on the purple/red/white single…

This first bloom is red mottled with purple. I hope it keeps the mottling as it matures…

Other colors can be nice too. Here are some more of this year’s seedlings.

And here are a few more. A striped mini…

A fragrant lavender floribunda…

And a white mini with long-lasting blooms…

Just a quick reply Jim, i am having lunch, then back to work. There are some stunners amongst this lot.

Thanks, David! This is an exciting time of year. Several seedlings are opening their first blooms every day. I pinched off each seedling’s first bud, so these seedlings’ first bloom comes from their second bud. Pinching off the first bud makes the seedling grow faster and I can usually get a good idea of what the mature bloom will look like from the first bloom. Here are a few of today’s first blooms.

This one’s form and fragrance reminds me of a David Austen rose.

This one looks almost identical to its sister seedling that I posted previously.

And a little peach…

Wow! Congratulations Jim!

Thank you, Irena! Here are a couple that opened today. The first one combines two lines derived from Schoener’s Nutkana.

The second seedling’s pollen parent was Scarlet Moss, but Scarlet Moss seedlings usually have lots of small prickles and big feathery sepals. This seedling doesn’t have those characteristics, so I’m wondering if it might be a self of the seed parent. Whatever it’s parentage, as long as it stays healthy, I’ll keep it for its deep yellow color.

You have some beauties there Jim. Great job!

Abraham Darby x Elle (Schneezwerg x gallica Splendens) from last August. Just four seedlings from this cross but one of them turned out juvenile remontant. Quite interesting, flat flower. It first looks like a camellia and when fully open like a Japanese cherry flower. Unfortunately no scent.

Thanks, Rob!

Interesting cross Jukka. I hope it is fertile for you.

Would love to see a pic of the yellow Austin type fully open.

Here it is. This is this seedling’s first bloom. I expect that blooms will be bigger and have more petals when the plant matures.

Very nice! I love yellow Austin types.

Looking good Jim, but there is nothing you can say bad about yellows IMO.
