Hi! I’ve been reading up and OMG Paul Barden posts here!!! I felt like I should print out his comments!
Who posts on here that rock your world with their knowledge and experience? What have been the most informative posts you have seen?
This is going to be the second year I’ve collected op hips and have tried to germinate. I had some success sprouting but lost then due to dampening off and kids.
Do I have to cross a certain species/diploidly with these? Sorry I’m so unknowledgeable at the moment. I’ve learned now that there are sterile roses and lots of bad parents.
Op William Baffin
Op Adelaide hoodless
Op Winnipeg parks
I’ve purchased Love Song last year and thought I could make some crosses. Now I’ve realized I don’t know what I’m doing and that might not work.
@andre_carl has helped me out quite a bit. You’ll find most are more than willing to share their experience and have a world of knowledge.

Ploidy is not something to stress about only because it is unpredictable.
I think it is good enough to know the ploidy the roses you’re crossing or the general ploidy of its type. A generalization is here:
Get a membership with HelpMeFind.com if you don’t have one already. It will help you find lineage of roses and determine what may be a good parent or produce what you are looking for.
Love Song (Carruth or Fisher) has few descendants registered in HMF. But in every case it is only used as Pollen Parent in those registered descendants so it may be worth a shot to try it that way.
