This thread was just meant to be a fun picture thread to pass some winter blahs and boredom so perhaps this is a fitting end to it (and maybe some lessons to be learned).
So yeah, I had an “ah-hah!” moment and know the parentage of the yellow. I wasn’t even close in my guesses- but it is perfectly obvious now that I have figured it out. Everything matches (I could wax ecstatic on how all the traits mixed and what came from where- but I will try not to be a bore) and works out except for the color- I would have expected red with a yellow base.
How does (Hot Cocoa x Graham Thomas) x (Graham Thomas x Knockout) sound? Both parents were last years seedlings (and red with yellow base). My Graham Thomas died last winter after suffering for four years. I have four other seedlings from it. This would make my first “advanced” cross.
I’ll end it with pictures (It has a name- GT3.0)
…I’m not real fond of quartered blooms though.
