Yes it is soon prime time for hybridizing for me too.
From your picture I can also see it also got the nice velvet leave shape in the edges, just as the one above from Sweden. This is also seen on Chinatown
The bloom looks lovely,Does the yellow fade or lighten with age? So many yellows do which according to an article I read is a genetic factor. Some of my yellows fade to an off white which I don’t care for though many people seem to like it.
Yeah, I reported earlier that Leverkusen’s sister, Ilse Krohn Superior, was highly susceptible here where mildew is rarely ever an issue. Kordes often paired Rosa kordesii with disease prone roses of new colors, so sometimes the disease portion shines through in latter generations.
Truly remarkable time-lapse. What were the intervals? Also shows that it opens quite quickly. About what temp was it? And when was sunrise in this series?
How many days until it drops petals? Finding flowers that hold on longer than 3 days is my biggest challenge now.
I read somewhere that Joro was created by the Departement Plantgenetics and -hybridizing from Belgium scientists. It was created for his desease resistance so it suppose to be doing well in the mid european climate. Their was only one flower on the bush which I polinated. I’ll let you know how it handles. It’s in very nutritioned clay ground with full sun and wind. It’s in the perfect condition to record the characteristics. I’ll record it and I’ll lety you know.
When i plucked the petals I was amazed by how orange it was. It’s very nice.
Hi Guys,
I was making most for the winter by reading on the RHA forum. I came across this old thread, interesting reading. Can anyone
update the outcome?
Well chuckp I still Got CG and have made some crossings. Best one is Clare Alexander, see HMF for more Info. Peter Harris Got it too, but i dont know how far he has come with his crossings. I have not heard From Timo in years, so dont know status on his crossings mentioned here. Rene have also used CG i know.

It looks as though Gelber Engel has become the yellow shrub of choice by the Kordes program. It is found in many listed and unlisted parentages of some of their more recent (last 2 decades) work in yellows, as well as other colors.
I have seen it locally. It is "very shiny, very happy). Probably easier to work with than Clare. While the type of yellow is different, I imagine they have similar depth and fade. I am unsure which is hardier, but I can say Gelber Engel does have all the resistances associated with caninae types modern hybrids (against downy, canker, etc.)
I believe we uncovered the full lineage of Clare longer after this thread was created. Golden Glow struck again, and I suspect it might be the source (via Clare G.) of one of the race resistances found in Sunsprite. Gelber Engel likely has better black spot resistances than Clare G. does, but I cannot confirm this beyond my own climate.
Perhaps someone from Canada has grown both and could give a hardiness comparison.
