OP ‘Lambert Closse’

It seems that this parent takes a couple more weeks to flower than other populations, but the first to bloom is WORTH THE WAIT, I would say! Even knowing that ‘Arthur Bell’ was LC’s seed parent didn’t prepare me for “not pink” to appear.
(Happy-dance ensues)
I have six(?) more seedlings from the same lot, all looking quite healthy, one other has peeled it’s sepals and looks like it will be a rich deep pink/crimson/purple shade.
This and ‘Outta the Blue’ are my All-Star Mothers this season, and methinks I will lean into it, HEAVILY.

You can see how I was excited about this bud being “almost-red” for a pink, but then…

Then it finished unfurling and went middling-pink.
Bleh. I hates it! Lol

It lost much of the orange, but kept enough to leave a buff-wash under the pale pink. The plant is looking like a miniature, which I suppose is possible, as ‘Apricot Clementine’ was near ‘Lambert Closse’ all last season…?

Cut the bloom a couple days later, still holding well.

And then the third(?) to bloom, but backwards in order from open to bud. Pink. But warm, with a fair bit of yellow at the bases. The plant suffers a bit of PM, but it might be worth keeping for a look at another flower.

A bud of the parent in my fingers. Very similar…

Much of the yellow pigment faded by the next morning, and I noticed a light sweet scent. There isn’t much of a plant beneath it, but it is well-rooted and I can see root-tips coming out the 4” pot, so I moved it into a gallon to see how it does.

We are currently under yet another heat-warning, so I’m staying inside as much as possible today.

This is the same seedling last pictured, blooming for the second time with two flowers VERY DIFFERENT than the first.

I like it much better like this!

Another even LATER appearance of a first flower from OP ‘Lambert Closse’. Aside from that exceptionally dwarf first seedling (definitely miniature character) that gave apricot-orange, pink has reigned supreme. This one feels a bit fuller than the previous blooms, and is opening incredibly slowly…

Hello there sir, good morning/afternoon/evening to ya! Hope all is well! Your rose looks very beautiful (You’ve done an amazing job growing it, even if it unfortunately did not come out how you desired!) Question if I may ask : what kind of rose is this/what is the name of this particular rose? And do you know if you’ve had it exposed to sun a bit too much? (I searched up causes of this particular scenario and it said that high heat exposure/sun can bleach the pigment.) However, it is said that natural maturation, and Genetic Variation can also be causes, so do you think either of these reasons could be the problem? (sorry that I asked, Its in no way to say you did anything wrong. I mainly am asking because I know nothing about these processes, but I would like to learn as much as I can!) I Hope you see this whenever you happen to get the chance, and hope you have a wonderful rest of your day (and happy planting/gardening)!

All the seedlings pictured in this topic/thread are grown from open-pollinated seed of the Svejda hybrid shrub ‘Lambert Closse’, as stated in the title of the posting. Many rose colour-pigments fade with time and/or heat.
