The little (Wendy X Altissimo) X Veilchenblau from earlier on, now looks like this. Some how I think it will not flower for me this year.

Another (Wendy X Altissimo) X Veilchenblau seedling, this one is thornless and clean as a whistle.

One should be able to get dark purples from Altissimo, if mixed with mauves, because it seems to encompass the majority of the chemicals for various reds.

This is the seed parent a (Wendy X Altissimo), I dont think it will enrich the mauve colour of Veilchenblau. The reason I use this particular cultivar is its fertility, which is extremely good and seed germination is awesome.

This seedling’s bloom finally opened today, although it may lack some structure at the present, I feel it will develope down the track. What I like about it is, the red veining on the petals. The cross is (Ithaca X SAFMUT), I am trying to put back some Tea/ china Genes into moderns as they are well suited to our climate here in OZ.

I have no idea what this new seedling’s colour will be, sort of a strange combo.

The Carefree Beauty X Old port has produced a double russet coloured first bloom.

Don’t seem to getting much feed back on this thread. HHHHMMMMM!!!

Any way not to worry it happens I suppose.

Here are three seedling all of different parentage and all showing blue grey type foliage.

Warren,

You seem to have a lot of very nice blue foliage in the last few (as well as the first few) of this post. I know QE and I don’t believe Vienna Charme have that much blue in their foliage, so where is this coming from? As you said, the cool winter air does really encourage sturdy, healthy growth, and it is evident. Something I meant to ask earlier-Are those two inch tubes actually a pot size, or are these something cut for the purpose? How deep are they? How exciting, you should have lots of buds and little flowers coming on anyday now.

Hi Jackie, I very much like to see the unusual happening whether it be bloom or foliage colour. I dont really know where this bluing in the foliage has come from in these three, but when the sunlight hits it there is almost a metallic shine occurring. Those seedlings from the 20th August are all in normal tall 6"pots. I alreay picked one bloom off after it was opened, I don’t leave blooms on young seedlings as they take too much out of them. Those before that date are in 2"tubes.

I think I am wasting my time and every one elses in here so I will say goodbye to this forum Adios

What, lol? That is silly.

I learned a great deal from your postings Warren. Especially with the right care and climate how big the seedlings can get in nine months. Half the year went by before we had any sun to speak of and my seedlings died off like flies by the hundreds. Good thing the germinations where good this year and I still have hundreds but almost weekly my mind would change about scraping almost all of them. Next year I hope to put into practice some of your methods and go for bigger faster growth.

Warren,

I look forward to the photos of your crosses with older teas, that not many people are doing. And the apparent health of your seedlings says you are doing a lot of things right, at least for your area of the world. I am a bit in awe of the results you get, but also realize that you didn’t jump into hybridizing just yesterday, like some of us. Now that you have posted some nice (tantalizing but very nice) photos of a new crop of seedlings, I am looking forward to seeing what shakes out of that group. I do not like to post the same things over and over, so I haven’t posted much lately–however, this past yrs(2012) crop has been promising, and I feel that I am getting somewhere slowly. That is much better than getting nowhere fast, as I have been. As for your posts, a lot of them have been eye candy, which is a very important part of the posting pyramid.

Warren I do not think you are wasting your time. I for one am enjoying your seedlings and your other post. I wish I was in a climate that lets me use some of the older china roses like you are able to do. Many of these I have never even seen in real life. It is hard to reply to post when your work is so far from what I am currently doing and away from my knowledge base. I am always having to look up the plants your using as parents because most of the time if they do ring a bell it is in name only. This is a good thing because it broadens my horizon. I love hearing about your program and I hope you continue to share your trials and successes.

[attachment 1315 15ix55j1.jpg](Baronne Ed Rothschild X Mme C Testou) X Lamarque Colour is a bit contrasty and washed out due to the strong sunlight, has a very strong perfume. This will be planted in the grow out beds tomorrow as I think it will develope iinto something nice.

[attachment 1316 15ix55j2.jpg] Foliage is very clean.

Did a few crosses using noisettes last year, Lamarque and Gloire De Dijion, both have produced interesting offspring , with health.

Warren, I continue to be impressed with your seedlings. Great work! When I finally make it to Oz, expect a visit!

your welcome Joseph if you are over this way
