Seedling from 2023 germination, (R. gallica x spinossissima hybrid?) and two winters outside.
This spring thought a goner - brown 4-6” twig and PM year before.
Spino designation from European nursery site where acquire/imported seed and pollen parent - nursery carries a lot of Finn origin roses.
Seed parent Finn hybridized gallica (Pirjo Rautio). Pollen parent Finn wild spino?.
Thought it appropriate to cross two Finn origins together.
As with last year with Merveille x R fedtschenkoniana, a mid season rummage under the overgrowth and found it today.
Longest canes a 16 inch Lufkin length - v. surprised. Very few prickles (actually did not note any). Had left it to pass on its own.
Still has PM susceptibility. But due to immigrant sentiments, staying and hoping for “purple” since it appears somewhat hardy.
Thats three different crosses using Merveille as seed parent that germinated. Going have to get another mature one.
Two appear hardy, third cross with JC not showing true hardy to-date.
Ugly PM Seedling Photo time - because of location and rodent proofing cant get clear frontal vertical photo proof.
The clean leaf growth at bottom of plant photo l am assuming is from prickly cane of a travelling Suzanne. RDxS is beside the new seedling (PM one).
After settled down from yesterday’s euphoria it was back to gardening maintenance and “culturing” new rose crossing afflicted bush and longer observation.
Trellised, sun shadowing canes of RDxS and others pruned.
4 canes, probably 30-50% of leaves PM’d, mainly top half.
Grew 3 inches from yesterday. Fired Lufkin not the operator.
Longest cane 19”.
Very pliable, no prickles except small (tiny) ones right at base of crown. So thornless.
Healthy leafed rose not suzanne. Another of my seedlings except don’t know what - very prickly. Need to check notes.
