Last year August I bought a Marzipan, and so far it really is a disappointing rose. It’s growth is very spindley, and it takes a VERY long time to form blooms, like maybe 6 flowers a month. I give it all the TLC that my other roses get, but for some reason it is just a miserable rose. It’s flowers are all right, they smell nice, but they fade too quickly, within two to three days. I don’t think I’ll use it for hybridising, and I’m contemplating removing it. (Never thought I’d remove a rose from my collection).
I’m not sure if it’s a hybrid tea thing that they start picking up in the second year of growth but it would be interesting to know if someone else has had the same experience.
