So which one is in Erinnerung an Brod?
I knew I wasnt seeing things. My book, Botanica’s Roses, lists Erinnerung an Brod as Rosa setigera x G
Is Long John Silver completely sterile? I’m considering purchasing it, but if it’s sterile I will choose something different.
Jon, and others. I didn’t see it in the above discussion, but the R setigera in those plants is probably rather diluted. M. Horvath produced a series of pirate themed plants in Mentor, OH in early 20th century. Before that (1890s) he did some creative work in Rhode Island. His biography is on the web somewhere. Don’t believe the simplified pedigree posted in MR. Somewhere earlier on forum there is a discussion of how generations get conflated when unnamed seedlings appear in a pedigree. Doubloons is the best known Horvath product. It is really prone to blackspot but the most vigorous canes I’ve seen. Blooms once only with golden cupped clusters. Accepts pollen from many things, works as pollen parent onto many in my experience. Remontant seedlings reasonably common. I have a couple that are quite good except for the BS. Hardy to 0 F (both Doubloons and the offspring if hardy parents used). We’ll see about -10 this year.
