Koko Loco in Texas

Yes we have Neptune here and as for the yellow I will/would try “Buccaneer”

I think there is something still there to mine from Buccaneer. It’s likely to produce nearly climbing plants, though, which is OK if you want that kind of result. What newer, perhaps healthier, stonger yellows to golden yellows do you have there to play with? Buccaneer is interesting and potentially useful, but it’s 51 years old, with 51 year old health. Surely there are other similar roses there which should have improved health, form and architecture? In many cases, going backwards gives you better chances of arriving where you might have gotten had you made such a cross in the past. There are exceptions, but from what I’ve experienced using older types, they are the exceptions. Maybe there are some Fryer or Kordes modern yellows you could consider, with their improved gene sets, providing better black spot and other fungal resistance?

What are the healthier, stonger yellows to golden yellows that we have here in the USA to play with?

Going back into the genne pool has its benefits if it is done right, like any thing choosing the correct parent is a big start. There are a lot of moderns out there claiming resistance but are just as worse as those long gone. Yellows which I have found to be sound here in Oz are (Selfridges, Berolina) Goldern Showers and Friesia, that is only a few. In the USA might be a different story with your 11 strains of BS and other things lurking in the background.

Very true. But, here are some newer yellows which either have proven themselves to be decent or for which claims have been made about disease resistance. Of course, your mileage will vary depending upon what strain of disease you have and whether the rose is happy in your climate, but any of these may be worth taking into consideration for further investigation. The coloring of Strike it Rich and Living Easy just might mix well with mauves to produce russets. You never know!

If I am thread jacking, I apologise again, from the one’s Warren mentioned I have 2, Golden Showers and Friesia. From Kim’s list I have one, Julia Child, If I could have the one that Jim S(First Impression) produced I would grab it now.
