Germinations from 2015 crosses

Today:

TADGAL x Prairie Magic

TADGAL is Thomas Afflact x (Abraham Darby x (Golden Angel x L83))

Prairie Magic Z3b is RSM 84 x Hazelean. It contains R. spinosissima, R.foetida persiana and R. arkansana blood. I’m looking for good hardiness and health from this cross. Something that repeats and in yellow, peach or apricot shades hopefully.

Take it Easy x “Fire’n Spice”. Looking for good health from both parents and increased hardiness from the rougosa hybrid parent, “Fire’n Spice”. “Fire’n Spice” is a rare rose that may have something to offer as a pollen parent. It is one that I like a lot.

Nyveldt’s White x Prairie Peace

NW Z3b is (R. rugosa x R. cinnamomea) x R. nitida. I think it has been an under used species cross that may have much to offer.
PP Z2b is Beauty of Leafland x Hazeldean and contains R. spinosissima, R. foetida persiana and R. laxa blood.

I’m expecting excellent hardiness and hope for great disease resistance and something in yellow, peach or apricot color range. It might be too hopeful to look for repeat bloom in F1 but Nyveldt’s White does repeat so if not F1 then hopefully F2.

Good luck!

Rob, I hope you succeed in getting new species blood into modern hybrids. Modern hybrids could certainly use new sources of health and hardiness.

Thank you Kim and Jim. Hopefully I will have some success with that goal Jim.

I like the Nyveldt’s White x Prairie Peace cross. It seems almost certain to create something very hardy and reasonably attractive. If healthy, too, that would be great.

I agree Joe. It would be nice to get all of that in a shade of yellow.

Today one I’ve been waiting on:

Morning Blush x Whimsy

MB is one of Rolf Sievers’ hybrid albas. It is Maiden’s Blush x Hamburger Phoenix that does have scattered repeat bloom. As a close descendant of R. alba, R. centifolia and R. x kordesii I’m hoping this cross will inherit very good hardiness and resistance. Since it will repeat I’m also hoping that crossed with a prolific bloomer like Whimsy it will have good repeat bloom. Smaller stature would be desired as well.

Today’s germinations:

Morning Magic x Prairie Peace

Royal Rdward x Prairie Peace

Looking for hardiness, health, repeat bloom and a shade of yellow. I’m hoping that RE will bring smaller stature genes. MM x PP might turn out to be larger or climbing.

Another Prairie Peace cross. This one I’m really excited about:

Cläre Grammerstorf x Prairie Peace

Could it be anything other than yellow? In addition to yellow, I’m looking for health, hardiness and good repeat bloom. Inheriting some of Cläre Grammerstorf’s scent would be sweet.

I misspelled the name of the seed parent. It should read Thomas Affleck

Wow, I’m drewling over that cross! I got PP from Rosenposten, Denmark last year and hopefully will get some blooms and pollen this year. I’m planning on pollinating yellow Austins and Sievers’ Northern Yellow, to begin with.

Bw,
Jukka

Jukka,

I’ve not been able to aquire PP yet but did have access to pollen through a generous individual here. I hope you get blooms this season to get pollen. I like your planned crosses utilizing PP.

I would love to get my hands on Northern Yellow. Great lineage and color on that one and I’m sure very disease resistant. I obtained the very hardy yellow, Unity, last season and there are a few buds on it this season so I’ll have that one to play with. Unity is: Coutts #1 × Hazeldean. Coutts #1 is Rosa canina L. × Unknown. I also have the hardy yellow from Thomas Silvers, R. rugosa x R. xanthina, that is in bud for the first time for me and I’ll be using that one for pollen. All very exciting stuff.

Regards,
