Because it’s the beginning of bloody MAY, I was shocked to see this bud. My shock prompted a scroll back through my camera photos to see when I noticed the first bud from ‘Mutabilis’ seed last year…
…it was June 8th, over a month later.
Here it IS!! “Hello, gorgeous!”
Full, fat bud promises lots of petals, and the colour…
Also (thanks, Stefan!!), it shows fringed stipules from multiflora-ancestry, so most likely pollinated by ‘Trier’, which same parentage resulted in my strongest/best seedling from last year. OOF. I am IN!!
Those sepals are also quite pretty, for those of us who like to look at such minute features. The color and form are very nice, and another day or two should tell you quite a bit about its potential!
Stefan
Aaaaand it has OPENED, becoming the softest apricot shade I can imagine. I love it!! My nose is a bit stuffed (lot of dirt up there; I’ve been gardening HARD) and I can’t detect a scent, but I am hoping.
Vibrating with happiness, Dusty.
Beaut! Gold luck on those to show.
Very ‘Safrano’-like. That’s an interesting and pretty result!
Just checked on “lil baby safrano”, and the one-gallon pot was rooted out to the sides and had started wrapping around the bottom, so into a two gallon it went!!! Woohoo for ‘Mutabilis’ vigour.
Unfortunately, it was one of the several unfortunate rosy-victims of the now infamous deer jumping the fence and munching episode of my mid-life crisis, so I’ll not include a photo until it flowers again.
