The OP Dorcas looks to set off the bloom beatifully. Congrats! Is that from the Buck rose?

Yes, Dorcas is a Buck rose. Dorcas (shrub) has nice hybrid tea form blooms, small plant, at least in my garden. I’m surprised that the seedling is yellow, but then Minigold is Dorcas’ seed parent.

Both are looking really nice Judith

Yeah, looking for the “Like” button…

Lol, thanks guys!

Why don’t any of my OP seedlings ever look like that? Very nice!

Mark

Lol, I do seem to get some pretty nice seedlings from open pollinated blooms. Maybe because we have tons of bees in our yard? Also, my roses are all scrunched up tightly in pots so there most likely is a lot of garden sex happening. Whatever, I’ll take good seedlings any way I can get them!

Looking good Judith

Thought I’d share a few photos. Got a late start with planting and thus with first blooms but I’ve gotten a few nice plants and flowers. You’ll see the hulthemia influence in all of them in varying degrees. A couple of them are already repeating and are making nice chunky plants. More good things to come I hope. Would love to see what everyone else has been up to this spring.

Bravo, well done Joseph

Really really nice Joseph!

Excellent, Joseph! I wish even one of my hulthemia seedlings would show it’s splotch!

Thanks everyone. It’s always fun and exciting to see what comes of each cross as we all know. I haven’t done ANY breeding this year as I’m limping a lot of my plants along with the drought here. I don’t want to over stress any of them, though that might induce an increase in hip/seed production I suspect. If I get a good summer bloom out of some of my better plants, I may try to do some late crossing. Otherwise I’ll hope for a wet winter here and a good spring 2016. Meaning no new babies until 2017! :frowning:

In the meantime, here’s another from a seedling that’s already on it’s second bloom cycle and sending out new canes. Super healthy, no mildew, no rust. This is a self of M37-1 x Home Run. M37-1 being the first hulthemia hybrid that Jim Sproul gave me in 2011. Thanks again Jim!

Hi Judith, what has become of the first seedling, the creamy looking one ?

Judith,

I envy your blotches! Very nice.

“I envy your blotches!”

Words I have never uttered to a woman…
But I think you meant “Joseph”, Rob.

LOL! Great sense of humor Philip. Thank you for catching that. I did mean Joseph.

And I just saw my dermatologist today…
