This a F2 Virginiana Hybrid ; Hybrid Kordesii X (Mimas X R. virginiana). This seedling is yet to flower,it shows good resistance with very thick leaf structure. Growth is upright and stout.
Nice foliage, Warren.
So pretty. Virginina really contributes nice shiny foliage.
Thanx Kim,
Max I hope it contributes alot more than that, the leaves are so thick there almost leather like. The F1 Hybrids have shown extraordinary vigour with great health properties. I hope these characteristics are not diluted down to quickly before I achieve what I am after.
Warren
I really do like the idea of these crosses. I will look forward to how they develop.
Adam the Autumn foliage on the F1’s is very good.
A few shots of these Hybrids during Autumn, the first one is summer
Looking good!
Those are looking very good-something for every season. Like the contrast of the bright golden leaf with the red veining and stems. Not to many roses do that in fall.
Thanks JR.
Joe this is the other F1 hybrid I wanted to give you seeds. There is another which is totally a ground hugger, it didn’t flower that well last year, but I am hoping for a better look this spring.
Warren
The seed parent is the seedling posted 17th May 2014, all seedlings from this cross display this purple red foliage.
Very nice. Are these photos from Oz or the EU?
Hi Don, they are all from taken here at home in Oz.
Warren, you’ve inspired me with this one. :0)
I liked the foliage so much that one of the few crosses I did this season was a sort of similar cross:
Basye’s ‘Commander Gillette’ X the kordesii ‘Illusion’
I hope I get something like your seedling.
Thanks Tom,
Its a good feeling to watch a rose develop which came from a species cross as it progress’s down the line F1…F?
All the F2 Rosa virginiana hybrids are about to flower, like clock work they bloom in their second spring after germination. The colour scheme on this first one is interesting and once I photographed the pollen was collected to be used today. The cross is R. Kordesii Hybrid X (Mimas X R. Virginiana)
Warren
Love it!
Thanks Joe. The foliage is very modern looking and I like the blended colour in the petals. It will be dad before nightfall
Recover rebloom in the next generation and I’ll give you a dollar!
