Conclusions:
We showed that drought induces oxidative injury by affecting the activities of antioxidant enzymes and the photosynthetic parameters of rose. Ca2+ supplementation alleviated oxidative injury, strengthened fluctuations in physiological and photosynthesis status under drought stress, and enhanced the adaptability of rose plants. Application of 10 mmol · L−1 Ca2+ in the leaves of rose plants enhanced the antioxidant defense system and the photosynthetic capacity, whereas immersion of the roots of rose plants in 5 mmol · L−1 Ca2+ enhanced the activities of antioxidant enzymes. Generally, the strategies used to apply Ca2+ might ameliorate the deleterious effects of drought stress on rose plants.
