A friend brought me a plant from Tuscan for Christmas from Home Depot of a rose labeled as a red Lady Banks rose. I cannot fine it on Helpmefind. It has prickles and double red blooms about an inch or so across with narrow petals. The leaves look relatively Rosa wichurana-like. It supposed to climb to 20’ from the tag and it seems to repeat some as it is blooming now.
It would be fun to learn more about this rose and if it has R. banksiana in it.
I’ve tried emailing them but the emails come back saying I have to belong to the “Google Group” to “post to the group”. Weird. So, have at it, there is a toll free number you can swamp until you get the information you want! Kim

Thank you!! THe flower has unfortunately fallen off of it. I’ll try to take some pictures when it recovers a bit and next time it blooms. From your help and a friend that emailed personally, it seems like it is probably ‘Chevy Chase’ from looking at the photos on Help me find.
Marketing that doesn’t acknowledge the registered cultivar name, even in fine print, sure adds confusion!! That’s too bad it really doesn’t have Rosa banksiana in it.
I saw it today in person at Lowe’s!!! This reincarnation is Red Ribbons, lol. More and more wholesalers are taking naming liberties to an entirely possible illegal level. Ive already filed with the US DOA for one wholesaler re: labeling laws. I should have wrote down the distributor code.
Yup. Bought one last week from the “death rack” at Lowes for $1. I also grow Red Ribbons. The foliage sure looks the same. Will keep them together for awhile and confirm that when they both bloom.
We used to be able to find 6" azalea pots of Red Ribbons sent out for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, etc. around here. When chopped back and pushed, it can be quite pretty, but when planted out in the garden, it’s like a smaller, repeat flowering, less diseased Dr. Huey in these parts.
Forgetting the possible re-namming issue, there is a rose in the HMF database introduced by Thomas Rivers before 1846 that is red and classified as a hybrid bracteata, ‘Scarlet Maria Leonida’
I sincerely doubt that is the rose in commerce as all of the REFERENCES are from the 1800s.
