Does someone know the background of the Lady Banks 'Red' rose?

I LOVE Red Cascade! Rooted it from a friend’s garden when I was living in Virginia. Think it would make a lovely tree rose (now I just have to learn to bud or graft). Don’t like the prickles but I love it’s rich red with deeper shades and it doesn’t fade in full sun. Despite being in a small pot in a pot ghetto in VA and now in NY, it always had a few blooms on it all summer and fall. I don’t care generally for such small blooms but found myself going over every day to take a look at them and feeling a pang or is that a zing!. The blooms lasted nicely and didn’t get limp or wimpy looking after a few days as so many do. Sorry for going off topic and getting carried away! LOL

Jim-

I don’t blame you Jim. This is one Paul Barden says remains healthy for him in Oregon and it’s a great rose here, too. Just making the point that what’s being discussed is not the Bracteata hybrid in question.

I know Kim; didn’t mean it as a criticism. This is a rose that had never much appealed to me. At the botanical garden in Richmond, VA, they have a whole bed ot it and it does nothing for me. I guess seing it putting out blooms despite minimal care that I have developed this attachment to it and I do enjoy looking closely at the blooms. Yes, I find it healthy here too, no BS to speak of. I just felt the “need” to expound, LOL.
