‘Julia Child’ is a wonderful pollen parent.
I have several very interesting seedlings coming from it.

I sewed the seed without stratification this year and am amazed at how they’ve germinated and grown! Robert sent home with me his cross of Carlin’s Rhythm X Home Run. I hit it with Grandmother’s Hat and the seedling has scented growth tips, sepals and peduncles, reminiscent of Grandmother’s Hat. It has a bud with decorative sepals right now. The plant is only 2" tall! Lynnie X Sunny Today is about the same size, also in bud. The one which really is intriguing me is Glad Tidings X (Dottie Louise X Fedtschenkoana). At about 4" tall, it has two buds, one about a quarter open and nearly the same color as Ralph Moore’s Peach Candy. Really surprising is its total lack of prickles!
Mildew has been a real problem. But, the weather has been awful and is the prime cause. Nights are still in the forties with highs on the hill approaching the low nineties in the past week. The fog rolls in and it is drippy the next morning, but hot and dry by noon. I’m not making any disease culls yet. This has NOT been a “traditional” year!
Those seedlings sound fun Kim. Glad to hear CARXHOR came in handy Kim. I’ve got one here I haven’t had time to utilize yet. It sets nice hips.
This has been the worst year for mildew that I can remember.
I’ve also got the worst mite infestation I’ve ever seen. I’m letting nature take it’s course. Fortunately I will still have plenty to keep me busy, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be the greatest Spring for hybridizing.
I sorry to here about your mites. Been there it is not fun. Those things increase like mad.
I get serious Mites infestation here every season. They seem to dissipate when a little green fly comes on the scene. Till then it’s really bad.
I get spider mites a lot too. They love the dry climate.
