Worth a shot?

Wish there was a chance to check this out.

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/grd/2883213779.html They don’t say how many but this is farm country. Ran across a farmer that had about 300 roses in pots with commercial lables most of them real different. I was justing starting to hybridize and didn`t realize what I was looking at and just for $5/2&3gal. pots. Neil

I wonder if the documented proof is that Peace was hybridized over sixty years ago, or that one plant has grown there for that long?

Looks like they want you to dig up their roses AND give them money or rhododendrons for them.

A little sleuthing turned up a possible location for these roses. If so then it looks like a ripe opportunity - If I were local I’d make that call.

The Portland Rose Society and Tualitin Valley Rose Society, from back when I was a member, usally gave away plants because a lot of the folks either passed on or they replace their roses a lot, which is common practice among visitors.

At lest with locally grown roses you get something that thrives in your area and with different tastes most likely something you do not have. With regret some of the roses that Paul Bardon was passing on was left behind. I did`nt want to act like a hog and with good advise did get Golden Horizen and Joycie. Very impresive roses but will take some doing to get some resistense breed into them. At least Joycie so far has 12 seedlings and Crimson GloryxJoycie has 11 seedlings.

Another thing is the stores have stopped selling roses in the fall, which around here was a good time to plant. You know why, change of marketing and for the worse. Neil.

If I remember of you remind me, I can give you pollen this year. I have a fairly diverse selection to use. The only con is that I use 3 properties, which means driving. The other con is that sometimes others decide to prune. My really old own-root Golden Wings on my family’s property, which is usually a good 8’ tall, is now like 15 2’ canes, lol. I dont think I’ll be using its pollen this year

I should get you some Pretty Lady pollen. I think you’d like the results.

I`m game for some driving and this year going to pollinate sooner armed with a hair dryer and see how that works. Neil
