Today, while out for a walk, I stumbled upon the leaves of an old rosebush. The fresh new leaf growth resembles a little a raspberry leaf somewhat, but is more downy. I was able to find a shoot with an older leaf tucked away. It looks a bit like the leaf of a hazelnut tree. The stipules are also noteworthy.
There are long canes, but no flowers yet, and I didn’t find any old hips either. The shrub seemed a bit battered, so I can only hope that flowers will sooner or later appear. Maybe someone can already give me a tip about the name or its possible lineage. Thank you very much!

Why don’t you believe it could be a Rubus, and not a Rosa? I suspect if you look at the stem you might see ridges running its length, which I understand is a blackberry attribute. (Palmate leaves are typically blackberries per my understanding.)

That’s not a Rose, it’s either Blackberry or something from the Rubus family.
