What’s going on here? Is this some kind of malformed rose? It is not a hip (unless, rose hips form without flowers, which … No, I dont think so), it is very waxy and looks like perhaps a rose was forming without the covering. Has anyone seen this before?
It is certainly an incompletely developed flower. I’ve seen this on occasion, and luckily, it’s always a very temporary phenomenon.
