Using Species for Disease Resistance

Conviction!

Yes you are right.

The only species SO FAR that has truly captured my long term interest has been persica.

:astonished:)

Go for it!

lol… now to get seed from the"wild form" here…lol

:stuck_out_tongue:

I thought this forum was to throw ideas around so all of us could learn something which could be of benefit to us all.

I sure hope so, even if not 100% correct.

Neil

Yes you are right about the purpose here Neil.

:O)

Sometimes talking about failed experiences with species (or whatever else roses) can help gain other insights, and sharing the experience amongst friends is also part of the aim here (message meant in a sincere way).

[attachment 1180 LaevigataOP.jpg] I found out who the pollinator is for this OP R. Laevigata, Its Dr Huey. There is a Dr Huey in full bloom with the Laevigata. Although it looks healthy, growth isn’t what you would say fast.

[attachment 1182 1660.jpg] This [(Wendy X Abraham Darby) X Mermaid] is about to flower, went out and saw this small flower bud forming.

growth isn’t what you would say fast.

How old is that Laevigata seedling in the pic, Warren?

Probably germinated around early Sept. My normal seedlings would have 6"plus of growth by now, this is around 2.5"

A few pics of the Sympathie X R. virginiana , new blooms, perfume is very strong Hybrid musk type.

I started hybridizing in the early 70s. I often utilized species. For anyone starting out I would warn them about the problems of suckering. Many species/near species can send out long suckers that can play havic with your book keeping.
