Anyone have any sources for this one? Burlington is not offering it yet.
Well, I found a source. Has anyone dealt with Growquest Nursery in Santa Paula, CA?
I wonder why Route 66 is so hard to find?
Yes. Don’t waste your money. You will never see your money again and you will never get your plant.
If I remember correctly, this was an Armstrong exclusive initially, just as Paul Ecke, Jr. was. Neither were thought to be sufficiently commercial for Week’s to introduce and market. I’d guess for someone to offer it would require licensing by Armstrong to sell it.
Armstrong usually carries it. It is not on their list right now, and their rose grower retired last week. Update: new grower is not planning to continue offering Rt 66. They bought rights to distribute, but it did not have the big volume of sales they expected, so they have discontinued it and will not be offering it in the future. I did not see Paul Ecke,Jr on the list either-I did want to get that one myself. It is such a unique deep color but it is not showy, which can be a negative with deep, dark colors. Will ask about it next time I talk to him, but for now Rt 66 is discontinued, per the new growers’ info.
Kathy,
I wish I had waited to read your post before ordering. I’ve emailed the company requesting a cancellation and email confirming the cancellation. They had so many negatives on their profile it’s almost unbelievable.
Jackie,
Thank you for the update on Route 66. I’ll take that off my wish list.
Rob
Rob, I know it’s likely patented, but there are some people around who grow it. Would cuttings, if found, be of interest? Kim
Kim,
Of great interest! ![]()
Rob
OK, I’ll see what I can scrounge up. I don’t grow it but know there are a few local rose nuts who do. I’ll be happy to let you know. Oh, BTW, would hips from Cardinal Hume be of interest, too? I have some violet roses and will send what there is. Is black spot an issue where you are? It is here (unfortunately) so I’m not going to breed with CH, though I will probably always grow him for the joy of the plant, the scent, EASE of rooting and usefulness as a root stock. Kim
Thank you for checking Kim. BS is a problem in my area. I had Cardinal Hume but tossed it because of BS.
Just got my cancellation reply from Growquest…whew!
OK, they confirmed you cancelled, now let’s hope they don’t still charge your credit card for it! LOL! Kim
I hadn’t even thought about that…thanks a lot Kim! lol
Judith Singer (where is she now???) had some nice seedlings from ‘Route 66’. I know she use to post here. I enjoyed reading her replies.
She has a PM box on Rosarians Corner if anyone wants to send her a message. Likewise, I am sure one could go back through RHA for her posts to send her a message – if her email is the same. She should also have PM box on HMF.
Rob, I contacted Jeri Jennings for cuttings of her Route 66. She apologized, saying it is no longer there. It’s cardinal sin was not blooming enough so she shovel pruned it. I’ll keep looking…Kim
Oh – I should have mentioned, I guess, that I grow it. My rose list is online at HMF under Rosaholics Southern California Garden. You can have cuttings from mine and also look for anything else you want with it, as long as we’re doing a mailing. Sorry, I was gone for the day. I have not pruned anything yet for the year. Email me at Kathy Strong At G Mail dot Com. no spaces.
And watch your credit card closely for awhile and make sure you complain to them if you see anything from them.
Kathy
Kim,
Thank you for your efforts and for checking with Jeri Jennings. It’s becoming clear that this one is not offered and for probably pretty good reasons so I think I’ll give up on this one. I have Midnight Blue and will be getting Ebb Tide and Wild Rover this spring so those should give me a good foundation to work with. And if I’m successful rooting Sweet Nothings that will give me and additional source of mauve to work with. Thanks again!
Kathy,
Thank you for your generous offer. It’s greatly appreciated. I will take your advice and watch my credit card closely for awhile. I should have come here first to check out the nursery before ordering. ![]()
