The second is gorgeous! What’s the disease resistance like so far?

No disease yet while some surrounding ones are getting BS and cercospora. Too early to tell though. As the weather warms (and I continue to inoculate with BS leaves and spraying with BS-infused water,) greater truth shall emerge.

In our climate zone 4,we use whey or fermented buttermilk diluted with water to strengthen the immunity of seedlings and rose busches and prevent diseases. It can be sprayed and watered.Good viable becteria increase resistance.

As a hybridizer, my goal is to INCREASE the probability of blackspot in my seedlings so I can assess resistance more effectively.

I just bought myself a young Rainbow’s End plant as a future parent. Your results make me glad to have chosen it.

It has been my most solid male. Put it on your best female or three and what happens.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Fourth of July from my local home hardware store because it had a couple of dozen swollen hips that must have resulted from the crowded conditions and lack of deadheading. It was surrounded by at least twenty or thirty different varieties, so even though I’ll never know the pollen parents I figured it was a cheap and easy way to get a ton of different interesting seeds.

I’m not sure how many more flowers I’ll get this year with all those hips growing on it, but I’m thinking my Fourth of July will end up being a great mother in the long run. The results could be pretty crazy with Rainbow’s End! Thanks for the advice.

Good luck with the seeds from your Fourth of July, never knowing what the result may be is a huge part of the fun along with the fact that they will all be completely unique to you.

Fourth of July is also well renowned as a great female parent that has a tendency to pass on its stripes really well
