Here is a picture of one of my seedlings two years ago.
And here it is today two years later. This rose has taken some abuse. First the roots were eaten away when it was a seedling and then last year it had to dear with a severe PM problem. So this is the first time it’s bloomed in two years.
I love the orange tones of this one!
Thanks George,
It certainly is an intersting color combonation.
what sort of blood runs in its parentage?
It’s Grimaldi x {[Orange Honey x (Spanish Rhapsody x (Applejack op))] x [BUCbi x (Hawkeye Belle x William Booth)]}. The orange and stripes come from Grimaldi and the stippling comes from to pollen parent, which I got from David Z.

Ooo! Want!!!
That’s a great seedling Paul! It appears that the striping and stippling are independent traits - a very beautiful combination!

Pretty neat Paul!
This rose has taken some abuse. First the roots were eaten away when it was a seedling and then last year it had to dear with a severe PM problem.
Not to mention the fact that it survived two winters in USDA zone 4a. Save that pollen!
Thanks guys,
First, I should not be allowed to post on here without first doing spell check.
The stippling was a happy accident. When I got the pollen I knew very little about the pollen parent and I didn’t know that it could produce stippled seedlings as it is pure white without any stippling. I have another for sure and maybe one more yearling with stippling from this pollen parent.

Paul, very cool seedling…
Very beautiful!

‘I have a hard time being ruthless and culling’
Nice colored stripe–and I’m glad to hear that someone else has a hard time pulling the plug on some of these little ones. But, I am better able to put the shovel to them at a year when they just don’t get their act together the way I think they should. Right now I’m eyeing space for planting out a few and have to cull a few that just aren’t making the grade from last year. The flowers are good, but the propensity for rust or total non resistance to heat are not good traits in my book.

Wow Paul!!! Your seedling is SOO beautiful!! What a great point Jim about stippling and striping probably being independent! Hopefully it will have good black spot resistance. The dad seems to have very strong horizontal resistance.
Thanks David,
That’s good that 1T20 has good horizontal resistance for BS, Grimaldi is only average in that regard. I’ll probably shovel prune Grimaldi since it’s not very vigorous at all. It was moderately vigorous when it was grafted, but since the rootstock died out from under it, it has never put out much growth. I think that is evident in this seedling, as it’s not very vigorous either.
Since this plant has such an unusual colored bloom, I don’t have a clue as to what I should cross it with.
