Seed Check

I just checked the seeds that I have had refrigerated since the last week of September. I probably have well over 400 seeds and I was suprised not one had germinated yet. Last year I had more seeds germinate then I could handle but things seem to be working a little slower this year. Perhaps January will be the month.

Merry xmas to everyone,

I just had the few first few germinations myself today, I think it just one of those years! Or that means in the next few weeks there will be a TON of germinations at once. That’s thrown me for a loop before. Maybe it’s just one of those seasons…

I just checked mine yesterday also-they were in the fridge since mid to late October-and there were no germinations. So then I checked the last yrs. seeds which are left outside on the patio in a protected spot under an overhead in the north corner, and to my surprise there were about a dozen sprouts. My outdoor temps are from about 32F to whatever the daytime temps are-and boy have they fluctuated. The surprising thing was that they were all dry, so I added appropriate amounts of water to the baggies and will pot them up today. Glad I checked-they don’t transplant well when left to develop true leaves. The refrigerated ones went outside today-I think the fluctuating temps speed up germination-so hopefully in a month or so they’ll get started.

Nothing for me yet either. Hoping for something soon. I’ll try fluctuating temps as well to see if that prompts something to sprout.

With more northern species I find that a 2 month warm treatment, before chilling for 2-3months, results in much greater germination -this technic is thanks to P. Olsen.
