I hate to be that guy, but there’s a common grammatical error in the very first sentence! Kind of curious how they let that through.

It was “those people” who should know adjectives and nouns ? … writes the fellow whose u/g supervisor complained his draft looked like it has mouse droppings all over it … too many commons … abstract reads like no hope in intervening in germinating process

Joe, if you were not “that guy,” I would have been “that gal”! No reflection on the quality of the research and the work that went into the study, though.

I’m not seeing the error?

“Roses are one of the most commonly used landscape plants planted in the United States, but seed dormancy of F1hybrids have made developing new varieties difficult.” Have would be correct if there were multiple issues making developing new varieties difficult. As there is only one issue causing difficulty, it should read, “seed dormancy HAS made developing new varieties difficult”.

Ah, I see it now. Yeah, that’s unfortunate.

Writing isn’t every person’s strong suit, of course, but finding someone to help review and edit one’s work is always an option. Not to pile on, but there are actually two grammatical errors in the first sentence; it is also incorrect to say, “Roses are one of the…”. I’m not entirely sure why the dormancy of F1 hybrid rose seed should be regarded as different from that of any other rose seed, but that is misleadingly implied in the abstract. There seem to be errors and perhaps deeper problems elsewhere in this thesis, like the statement cited in the introduction that roses are propagated by vegetative means because their seeds exhibit dormancy!
