Rosa Aicha breeding?

I felt that buddy. Sorry for laughing.

It varies, l have been swamped for example with beggeriana and altica seedlings and gallica x hardy and R. xanthina species seedlings (last no crosses have been germinated like with original species seeds)

These results were after first pulling from 90 days at 0C to ambient #1.

More stubborn ones took longer and more cycles but still germinated e.g. schoeners nutkana x, R nutkana x, and my favourite Finn success Merveille x porsiillini Kauntor (a spino pollen parent with gallica seed), rugosa (f) x etc..

To “0” after 3+ complete cycles. BTW l don’t use 90 day “0” cycles after the first one, normally 2 weeks. If no more germination by end April l shut it down … grass is green and bare roots arrive and an engineer so still dont have time to waste as a credo. Into the garbage they go.

Whereas other resorted to embryonic extraction as an alternative for stubborn. Too much fiddly work for me and l like organic approaches.

An option if too much work cycling and waiting. …. waiting … waiting and you need an answer now.

Also might want to check with your friendly Scots to see how they germinate their Scot roses seedlings.

Think your one seedling is going to be very important …

After much looking it seems the seed casing was still too tough for the radicle to escape. The only thing that got out was the root. I noticed it 3 weeks ago, checked on it weekly. No progress and as of today officially dead. I will keep cycling these seeds hoping for further more successful germinations. I see from helpfindme and previous threads on this forum that people have germinated seeds from Aicha. If I do fail, I fail in the knowledge that some of the crosses I attempted were successful. I will redouble my efforts on that front next season. I will not give up. This is one of my favourite roses, I hope to use it to be an integral part of my breeding line

Maybe plazebo might shine some light, an aussi in hot climate. Germinates spinos with no chilling if l remember his contribution right. Might of tried rose.

I wish we actually knew what we needed to do. Feels like some ritual where I make a deal with the mold gods

Not a bad backup plan … my curses at Odin still echo through Asgard

Then came the near perfect germination of Merveille x Fedtschenkonian and my universe was in order again … especially when he gifted me so far, a very hardy gallica compared to the seed parent.

Nearly retired from failure after failure from following the word according to the “ cook book”. Then sisu took over and said ft approach …

After 4 cycles I have at least 1 germination. Never give up on your dreams folks. Will post pictures and keep you posted on my newest baby (will be doing a lot more of the same cross)

Thank you for the advice! I was going to leave it out for 6 weeks and then do a 6 month period next. So very thankful one decided to not torture me
