In roses which are known to set seed, if some of the flowers have obviously poorly developed receptacles, are they also less likely to be fertile (compared to nearby flowers on the same bush which have more prominent receptacles)?
Of course I am talking purely about ability to set hips (not pollen fertility).
Seeds are proportional to stigmas, always <,=. But on Carefree Beauty, every hip can set seed, wherever on the bush, with position determining energy and hence flower and receptacle size. I’ve not done a careful survey for other, less fertile CV.
