I bought this copy of Eyeconic Lemonade a couple of weeks ago and it has developed some som reddish brown spotting on the upper leaves. The weather here on the California Central coast has been cool and foggy for the past few days with the exception of two sunny days in the upper 70’s (*F). Is this color change and spotting something to worry about or a consequence of schizophrenic weather.

Could this be cercospora? I have seen some of it on some of my roses this yr, in bigger amounts than usual. Have dumped a few with the worst outbreaks. It doesn’t look like blackspot, which is around more this yr than I have ever seen (blackspot just doesn’t get that much of a foothold in SoCal–I think someone needs to remind the blackspot of that). Cercospora and Antracnose both cause spots and I’m pretty sure I have some cane damage from it as well. The ‘no spray’ regimen is causing a little rethinking among some of the keepers this yr, but even with the increased pressure, the majority of my roses are looking good, and some of the really established roses are going to be kept, even though they are susceptible. They just are done being used for seed or pollen.
Jackie:
I’m fairly certain that this isn’t blackspot. I got a pretty good lesson of what that nasty stuff is when I lived in Oregon.
Its not blackspot. Sometimes it is weather or chemical induced damage, and sometimes it is a spot disease. Sometimes we get anthracnose, but it really doesnt do any damage – it simply looks unaesthetic.
