So in 2008 I tried Raven as a parent. I knew it got some BS like Lavaglut does, but it had superior vigor, rebloom, and tolerance to wet soil. It also had that deep, smoldering black-red that Lavaglut has. So I tried it with Preference, among many other things. This is what has survived after 3 years of mistreatment and abuse, lol. The blooms are about 3" each.
So it can obviously lose its miniature foliage traits, retain some big thorns, color, sustance, vigor, and close cluster-formation. I did not really notice any blackspot, but I doubt its super clean. I am guessing it’d prove average for a floribunda. Overall, its not bad for a neglected orphan, lol.
Which reminds me, I still have to go through about 30 more neglected orphans this October to decide who gets culled from 2008, lol =(
ps. While Im in a photo mood, Im putting a pic of Sunrise Vigorosa up on HMF. I think its probably triploid, but its a nice garden plant. I am testing its pollen and seed-setting this season. Regardless, its a nice plant.
Your seedling is glorious. My two year old Sunrise Vigorosa is clean this year, but had some blackspot last year when we had rain. Does yours stay clean in your climate?
I am surprised you guys like this seedling. I just thought of adding it to the giant pot luck of reds Im mixing up for red floibundas. I’ll likely cross it to Remembrance x Double Red Knock Out next year. I think the darkness can stay because Remembrance also has wonderful saturation, which seems to pass on easily.
FWIW to breeders of red (I’m not), Esp Jadae. As part of my seed germ study I planted a whole lot of what I believe is Home Run. By its location out in frat row it’s almost certainly OP=selfs. There’s a wide range of segregation from light, bright pink, to the darkest red I’ve ever seen, with most in the middle of course. HR has better fertility and much bettter germ than KO (and somewhat better than DKO). SO that might be a route to really saturated color, though it won’t help get more petals on your red ruffels.
Im using Miracle on the Hudson, too. I used to own Home Run, and it had one major flaw that made me not care about leaving it behind when moving – awful plant architecture.
I noticed a healthy hip on Sunrise Vigorosa. So this one might go both ways. Last season I got a white seedling from Sweet Vigorosa that for a while looked like it might be a micro mini, but then it started elongating.
