I was just wondering , is this a common occurance for Virginiana Hybrids to have thorns formng up the leaf stalk?. I have a photograph of it in the page link.

I don’t know about R. virginiana but many species roses native to the United States do this. I know R. arkansas, R. woodsii and R. foliosa will do this. Since most roses native to this continent are very closely related according to different studies showing how much cross pollination occurs between them. I would say it is a safe bet to assume that if not most then at the very least some R. viginiana will do this.
