I was weeding around the beast today (and have the scars to prove it) and trimmed off a few wayward branches that I made into 14 nice cuttings. If anyone would like them (in Australia) PM me. All I ask is that you send me a plastic, A4, pre-paid, self addressed, postpack. They will be wrapped for pre-callousing today ready to post if anyone wants them. It strikes easily and will make an enormous (think ‘Mermaid’ and add some) plant.
Still available… adding to the list… ‘Nozomi’ (works best as pollen), ‘Laura Ashley’ (sets hips), and what is sold in Australia as ‘L’Ouche’ (which sets hips… no mildew issues here so far… probably ‘Louise Odier’). I also have some spare (small and in need of TLC) plants of own-root ‘Orangeade’ that need good homes.
If black spot isn’t an issue, the Orangeade makes a stupendous, retina-frying hedge! Use it for pollen which won’t take on anything else as it is a real “HO”! I grow an old Sequoia breeding plant of it just because. That color is SO saturated, SO intense; the petal bases are really quite purple which sets off the brilliant orange beautifully. Extreme heat and sun burn the edges quite black, producing some remarkable results. Its presence in my garden is a real self indulgence.
