R. gallica Splendens x Above and Beyond's first bloom

When on market available ?

Nice success combining OGR form with hardy.

One short hop from Heathrow to Helsinki in August …

I have a number of repeating “patio sized” spinos of Knud and others … particularly like a Belgium’s Mon Amie Claire Paula Valpe and Peter Boyle.

I need to find a nursery that would start adding this rose.

I also have Paula Vapelle, Mon Amie Claire and Peter Boyd.

This is off-topic, but these following pictures have successful pollinations from the cross of Ristinummi x Prairie Peace and Ristinummi and Peter Boyd. In addition, I had two seeds germinate in May from the cross of Ristinummi x pendulina

You’re welcome. It was a pleasure to be of help.

I need to try again Ristinummi, and R. pendulina. There is a couple us in Alberta that have Ristinummi so one has got to succeed to get the bloom size and color.

I had head shaking “germination success” with Pirjo Rautio’s Nordic “purple” gallic Merveille as a seed parent with a wide variety of tetraploids pollen Fx parents and species plus a diploid thrown in. Also Merveille x Bill Reid and Merveille x Porsliinikaunota

But don’t know if they crossed for at least a couple years … though showing some climber/rambler traits of long canes for 5 months from germination ~2.5 to 3 feet.

Still deciding if l will leave planted come October or back in grow room for hiding from Arctic vortex episodes.

Plus a couple of “micro mini” that likely will be culled down the road. One with 4-5 inch tap root and associates. Bought both back in this week to go under lights / heat mats after 2 months outside.

Only other seed parent success is with Schoener’s Nutkana and R. nutkana, both with mixed pollen of Hazeldean and Prairie Peace.

Also grow Knud’s blushing love “patio” spino. Nice tidy small bushes after couple years - less than 12”. If they stay there make great patio / balcony roses.

Thank you.
I have never won the lottery but it feels like it with this rose. Only four seeds germinated and this was one of them. In addition, I have another offspring from the same parents that could become something nice.

It is difficult to pollinate the Ristinummi. Often the pollination seems to be successful, but after two or three weeks the hips wither and fall off. This summer’s pollinations have been successful with Ristinummi x Prairie Peace, Ristinummi x Peter Boyd, Ristinummi x Rosa x harisonii Kiiminki and Ristinummi x Rosa Annala. Annala is Hansa x Splendens.

I haven’t tried the Merveille rose but after what you said I have to get it.

You have many different crossing lines going. I hope you succeed in your goals and get a few jackpots. Surprises can always happen.

Knud Pedersen has done a good job of producing spinosissima roses that bloom repeatedly.

Good info - txs.

Good luck with Merveille.

My germination success with her, probably because of using tetraploids pollen parents and Roseus thermal recycling suggestion, stopped me from throwing in the towel and walking away.

Exciting cross! Looks fantastic! Rosa gallica ‘Splendens’ is completely hardy here in Telemark, Norway. ‘Above and Beyond’ have not been available nor tried here in Norway here but should be an attractive partner for ‘Splendens’.
