Ploidy of Flower Carpet Scarlet NOA83100B

George,

Sounds like Florida in the USA. Thirty years ago when I lived there, during the summer (June-August approximately)it would be hot and humid all day and night but around 3pm every day, the clouds would roll in and we would have a 30 minute or so shower and then a bit of a breeze. One could almost set one’s watch by it. My sister who still lives there said the timing is not as regular these days.

Jim

Hi Jim P,

Yup, that sounds a similar pattern as for our summer. Sydney gets periodic mild rainfalls all year round, there is no definite predictable dry or wet period, at least as far as I can summarise in my 46 years of living here. When it does rain, it is usually of short duration (hours not days) and then its all over…occasionally we get 4-5 days rain in a row, any time of the year. Of course, I remember flooding here, but only like in a freak year, (like once a decade, or similar). Generally I feel my city is not really blessed with a decent amount of rainfall, as each year rolls by…

:frowning:

Has anyone here noticed PM on their Flower Carpet Scarlet?

One local rose grower has advised me he has noticed PM to sometimes occur on his Flower Carpet Red, but could not tell me if FCS gets PM here.

FC Red gets everything. Its AWFUL. Scarlet could get some things here and there to an acceptable degree but I have not noticed it personally.

I’ve never seen PM on FCS. FCR is a shocker. I think if you are looking for something like FCR, without as much baggae, Bassino or Royal Bassino might work. FCS is a workhorse here and is rarely troubled by anything.

baggae = baggage

Thanks Michael, and thanks Simon.

The better than FCR Kordes rose is the newer Apache KORcatemp.

More compact but not at all miniature as HMF says. Just wichuraiana derived plant as FCR is. Flowers are larger, lasting and profuse.

Hi Pierre! Happy new year to you, from Oz!

Do you have any knowledge of the actual breeding hehind KORcatemp?

I really like the piture of it, on HMF!!!

What is Ruby Vigorosa like? aka Rotalia.

A strong stiff asymetric wide plant, as desease resistant or better than KO here. Deserved maximum four stars Kordes rating for BS and PM very few vars get. Abundant spring flowering and later flushes. Sets OP hips but not very fertile.
