Hi all I’ve been a long time lurker and have finally decided to give my hand at hybridizing. I was recently able to aquire the rose Always by Your Side and would like to try to get this color in the classic hybrid tea and a more fully ruffled bloom. Any reccomendations for seed parents? Of the roses I have now the only ones that have set seeds are my climbers. Located in the USA.

Welcome KingRoseSlayer! Are you familiar with Help Me Find-Roses? Rose Search A Premium membership ($24 a year) permits you to access the Lineage portion of the database to research all the known information about what roses created what results. In the Advanced Search, you can sort the roses by pollen or seed parent, as well as all the listed varieties made by specific crosses. You can also search for all varieties listed by plant habit, color, scent, petal type, foliage type and many other traits. Unfortunately, very many of the florist varieties have no stated parentage, making it impossible to see what created them, but many others are listed with stated breeding, permitting you to trace their ancestries back to determine where traits originated; what they went on to create with other mates; what many of the searched for types have been used to create and many other questions. Of course it’s always fun discussing what has worked for us, but a Premium membership to Help Me Find is a remarkable tool which can provide you with many hours of interesting and helpful research. I just used the Advanced Search for “Hybrid Teas” and “Ruffled” bloom form. It yielded 12 pages of results. Of course, there are duplicates as each synonym is also listed as a separate entry in the search, but this shows you which roses in the database were entered with those criteria and further allows you to research their parentage and any offspring they may have produced.
You can also research results by BREEDER. Lots to enjoy!
