OP L83 seedlings...what to expect?

This is good news - a friend has recommended this rose, and depending on when it blooms, I hope to get lucky since all my roses grow in the ground.

I have literally hundreds of L83 crosses in 3" pots this season and not one of these has bloomed yet. WHAT am I going to do with these??? Will they flower next year while still in 3" pots, or do I sort through them and pot up a couple dozen at random and hope I am not throwing out any winners? I do NOT have the room to save 250 selections of L83 seedlings until they all flower. Perhaps I should package some of these up and ship them to anyone willing to grow them on a while?

While prospecting HMF for an unrelated purpose I chanced upon a very floriferous rose named Rudolfina which, as it turns out, has L83 as a parent:

Knowing L83 has this sort of potential, if I had room I would jump at this offer. It’s just the sort of opportunity to help advance a close-species gene pool that we’ve been discussing in the thread on pedigree breeding and diversity. When you get to a decision point please let me know, but I do hope others will take you up on your offer so that the whole spectrum of phenotypes gets a sporting chance.

In another thread I found this regarding L83: “Breeding Line 83 is 6 feet tall, hardy and healthy, but not remontant.”

I was under the impression that L83 repeats bloom. Could someone clarify that for me. HMF doesn’t specify.

It reblooms some. I was looking through my photos of it (I date them) and have some photos from late July early August of flowers. I think it blooms later than that though too.

In my climate, L83 gives three flushes: late May, a sparser one in July, and a fairly decent one in September. There can be a few extra blooms in between the main flushes as well. I wonder whether its really L83 the person is speaking about, because I very much doubt that that rose would build to anything like 6 feet tall. Five, maybe, but no more.

Thanks David and Paul. I was pretty sure that L83 repeats. You may be right Paul. Maybe the quote is regarding another rose altogether.
