Not deadheading for OP seeds

This is my first season to attempt crosses. Most of my plants are pretty young but all are blooming even if not profusely yet.

As an experiment I am skipping all deadheading to see if any blossoms I don’t intentionally cross also set hips and how much. I have a mature R. blanda that is a hip producing factory then a mix of OGRs and a few modern shrubs, mineratures and polyanthas.

I assume if/when it is clear a blossom is not going to produce a hip I can deadhead it then. Excepting the one time bloomers of course. Is that the general practice if trying to also get OP seeds?

Thanks!

Frequently a humbling experience when you find bee’s success rate far exceeds your own as pertains to a great many prospective mothers. (Very full double roses however generally don’t get as much… err… action on the “nature’s pollinator” end. Those fully double flowers may not reveal their full potential fertility without a little help as most bees, while busy workers, aren’t total masochists.)
