My seedling looks so different than when it bloomed in the spring

Is this ususal? I winter sowed this seed (open pollinated Graham Thomas) two years ago. This spring I got my first flowers. They looked like this-



Now in the Fall it is blooming again and it looks like this-



I can understand the color change maybe due to temperature changes, but what about the number of petals? Do seedlings get more petals as they mature?

Petal count often increases as a seedling matures, yes. Some seedlings are affected by seasonal changes as well, often being much more double in early Spring and in the Fall, and less double in mid-Summer.
