Are there any suggestions as to what roses have the long hips. No seeds where in them so maybe that makes a difference in the shape. Neil
Cool move, here`s the picture.

Neil,
Next August/September, go to Joy Creek Nursery (Scappoose, OR), where they have some freakishly huge species roses in their display garden. There are some pretty cool hip shapes there.
Hmm, it could be this one.Roses for English Gardens: Rosa "Doncasteri" hips - a good display and with the flowerhttp://harpurgardenimages.thirdlight.com/viewpicture.tlx?collectionid=86345&pictureid=10792674http://www.google.com.pe/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=rosa+doncasteri&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CEQQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fharpurgardenimages.thirdlight.com%2Fviewpicture.tlx%3Fcollectionid%3D86345%26pictureid%3D10792674&ei=8G5sT8eRCsOJtwfRyqGbBg&usg=AFQjCNHNM8mbM2snSJxwJb2qhRV7dPabsQ
The longer, narrower hips in the upper part of the picture look very much like the hips I’ve seen on several Damask roses.
The picture looks a little fussy because of all the little prickles on the hips. The canes had big and little straight sharp prickles and good size hooked ones. Not sure I would want to work with something like that. Neil
Just to show the stem.

A close by rose. I think these came from Euroupe and are not root stock.

Nice flower of your rose Neil, I am sure you could breed with it.
Does it repeat bloom? It looks like it may have some china influence in what little I can see of the leaves.
Oh, sorry guys, this was in a private very neglected garden and a last chance for those and some other fine roses to be seen by outsiders. Neil
