Joan Monteith hybrids and others

I am just curious if anyone out there still grows any of Joan’s hybrids. I grew several back in 08-09 and lost them. Would love to grow as many as I can again.

Also looking for J5 and a long shot Enrique Ramirez’ R. X kordesii x Basye’s Amphidiploid.

I guess they’re probably all long shots.

I obtained seeds from Joan for Rugelda x Mr. Nash. I would love to try that cross again – most were too vigorous, and outgrowing their pots, they required more irrigation and attention than I could provide. Several had very attractive blooms in peach and yellow blends. Onfortunately, the one that lived long enough to be moved to TX with me was one of the least appealing, slow-to-bloom runts that earned the nickname “Dirty Kleenex caught in Barbed Wire" but which improved greatly in form and color as it matured. A creamy yellow, it had a weird odor and was prone to BS and was not worth keeping ultimately.

I think Enrique essentially abandoned his seedlings when he moved, and I don’t know that any exist. The probable amphidiploid is extinct to the best of my knowledge. The accession at San Jose was apparently pruned to death (I understand both species resent pruning.)

Mike, if you mean the Morden Research Station‘s J-5 aka Prairie Magic, I do have it still. I can send pollen in May. I seem to recall that it’s very difficult to root cuttings (I had no success years ago) but I could send cuttings later.
