Is this enough moisture?

I’m trying to cold stratify without any medium. I’ve soaked the achenes for about two hours in a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution and I’ve placed them in the baggie for cold stratification. Does this look like enough moisture within the baggie? This is about 10 days after the initial soak

I have absolutely no experience with medium-less stratification, but I would say it’s either enough or too much.

Did you spray/mist the plastic baggie in addition to the soaking, or is this moisture just from the achenes themselves?

My only successful cold-stratification method so far has been sand.

The plastic baggie method was a mold/fungus magnet for me and none of those seeds germinated. Seeds from the same batch germinated better with moist sand, where the moisture was below the seeds but still present in the container.

Less moisture seems to be a safer bet than more moisture.

I used to use vermiculite. Once they were in they only came out when they were ready to germinate. I found finding the seeds in the vermiculite messy annoying business and it was difficult to monitor mold. All be it I didn’t have much. Switched to the baggie method with kitchen paper, I do get mold but I just take them out every 3 weeks for a little cleaning dip then redo the the kitchen roll. That is time consuming but I think allowing a little mold to build helps germination

The moisture in the image is from the initial soak.

I’m avoiding paper towels for the same reason that you mention. With the embryo extraction I’ve also seen that mould is almost unavoidable, and the extra moisture doesn’t help, so I’m going to give this method a go.
