I am describing an interesting phenomenon for me that can occasionally be observed on new shoots of my seedling “Rose de Resht X Eye of the Tiger 2/2023.”
The plant habit, flower shape, fragrance, and shape of the hips clearly correspond to those of a Portland rose. The pinnate leaves usually have 7 leaflets, sometimes 5. When the seedling sprouted for the first time last year and in the spring of this year, there was only one single leaf with 9 leaflets. A few weeks ago, the rose sprouted new leaves again, and now there is another leaf with an unusual number of nine leaflets.
This shows probably a paternal genetic introgression. In some cases, introgression can contribute to the formation of new, stable hybrid species.
The seedling is still young and healthy. I am curious to see how it progresses.
