A new seedling that I’m excited about. I was very happy to obtain a clear yellow given the parentage.
Im glad ya’ll are mixing and matching the minis into better plants. It makes me happy Maybe I can like minis like I always wanted to one day.
That’s the goal! Hopefully a lot more people will like minis more.
Rob is it your goal to have mini’s for a reason, like smaller yards and say appartments ?
Hello David. The home that I own now has much less garden space than previous homes so I was forced to reavaluate my goals and get realistic about what I could do with the space that I have. The majority of roses are in pots which seems to be working out fine. My thoughts run towards smaller roses (mini/patio) that people could grow in containers or rock gardens for example. I’m finding I can put quite a few minis in the same space that a shrub or climber took up before. I do have several shrubs to use as breeders but only use minis on them.
Regards,
Rob
Rob:
Did you get anything out of 1-72-1?
Jeff,
I don’t have 1-71-1 yet but did use pollen from it last season and have some interesting seedlings when pollen was used on Strawberry Cream, Polka, Illusion, and Midnight Blue. I also have one 1-72-1 x L83 seedling (from Paul Barden) that although it is once blooming, is completely disease free. I used Sequoia Ruby pollen on it this season and hope to get some very healthy repeat blooming minis from it. There is also OP hips on that and I’m hoping for some repeat bloomers in F1. I’d love to obtain 1-72-1 at some point as I think it has a lot to offer.
Let me know when you’d like cuttings of 1-72-1 Rob. Mine is growing and setting self set hips (for the damned rodents to eat!). I’m not doing anything with it this year, concentrating on other things, instead, so there is plenty of material available from it. That goes for anyone else who wishes pieces of it, too. I also have MUCH material to cut from 0-47-19 should anyone wish to play with that one. The Basye’s Thornless Wichurana has been in flower for many weeks now and growing like a fire!
Kim,
Thank you for the offer. I love cuttings of 1-72-1 whenever it is convenient for you to send them.
You’re welcome Rob. My main concern at this time are the triple digit temps they will likely be subjected to in transit. It serves no good to par boil them in the mail. I can send them this week, but I don’t know how they will be when you receive them. Perhaps it might be safer once these heat waves subside, presuming you will be able to have any success with them then?
Kim,
I’m happy to wait until you think it would be the best time to ship and recieve. Thank you again.
Rob
OK, Rob. You’re welcome. It’s now our “normal” heat time, so it may be a little while.
